Poor baby A. My poor darling girl.
She's still alive, before you panic. But poor baby girl is sick sick sick. She was doing okay this morning, so we took A and E to daycare, like we normally do on Mondays. But I got a phone call at about 10, from the daycare. They said that A had been throwing up, and had some bloody diarrhea. But they didn't seem too concerned. Just put her in the back room to keep her quiet.
But it worried me, so I called Alpha and asked him to leave work and take her to the vet. I made an appointment for 2pm. When 1:30 rolled around the daycare called me again and said, A definitely needed to go to the vet. She's had more bloody diarrhea, and obviously felt ill.
I finished with my patients by about 3, and Alpha still wasn't done with the vet. So I drove over to meet him, so he could go back to work. Poor A was horribly dehydrated, and they had already put in an IV so she could get more fluids. Since it was late, the vet wanted to keep her overnight to continue the fluids.
He was concerned about her kidneys, and how sluggish her blood was. To make matters more complicated, our vet doesn't have overnight observations. I waited until 5 pm, and drove her over to the doggie hospital for the night.
She just curled into a ball and slept, dazed, for the entire drive. Didn't walk around. Didn't even try to get into my lap.
When I brought her to the hospital, they wanted their vet to look over her. Admitted into the ICU, the vet told me they wanted to keep her for at least 2 days, to make sure she would be alright.
By the time I left the hospital, baby girl was doing much better. She was more alert, and had already peed (which tells us her kidneys are doing okay.)
The hospital is being very kind. They said we could call or drop in to check on her any time, since they're a 24 hour facility. I really hope she can come home tomorrow, even though they say it'll be Wednesday.
